Alienware M11x gallery and first impressions

&h=&q=90&w=90&h=65&zc=1" class="alignleft" alt="">

We’ll have a full review of Alienware’s pint-sized gaming machine, but in case you guys haven’t seen enough pictures of it (or there just wasn’t enough bokeh in those other sites’ shots), I’ve put together a nice little gallery for you. I’m happy to take more pictures too if you want close-ups of this or that. I literally just took it out of the package a few minutes ago, and I have to say my first impressions are very positive. They clearly knew what they wanted to do this this thing. The build feels very solid, the screen is bright, the lighting isn’t as over-the-top as I’ve seen on other Alienware models, and a quick Geekbench run gives it an 1889, which is significantly faster than some other slim-and-lights I’ve tested recently. Please go ahead and comment if there’s anything you’re wondering about in particular, and I’ll try to answer those questions in the full review. In the meantime, enjoy these artistic shots of this very good-looking machine. I stacked it on a 15″ MacBook Pro there for size comparison — it’s very compact.

Bill Gates’ hurricane-busting tubeships are real, people

Last year, I wrote that Bill had this (let’s be honest) evil-genius style plan to weaken hurricanes before they make landfall. Sounded a bit fantastical at the time, but as it turns out, there are real scientists ready to rock and roll with these things. They’re so serious they even put together a video . The idea is really pretty simple: by pumping warm surface water to the cool depths of the ocean, the temperature at the surface can be reduced by a few degrees, which is apparently all it takes to weaken a hurricane. Modern Warfare 2’s No Russian level, now in machinima form

&h=&q=90&w=90&h=65&zc=1" class="alignleft" alt="">

Is it too early in the morning for senseless violence? If you’re American, it’s never too early for violence, senseless or otherwise! Anyhow, some dude, presumably named Michael Barnes, put together a legitimately good machinima of No Russian, that stupid level from Modern Warfare 2 I can’t embed it, so you’ll have to actually go to YouTube to see it. Ah, this brings back memories of last fall, when everyone was freaking out over the level. I eventually concluded that it was barbaric and plain ol’ not fun, but feel free to disagree. Fair warning: the video is quite violent, as you might expect.
