Tropical Storm Hermine
Headlines Monday, September 6th, 2010With increasingly favorable conditions for development, Tropical Storm Hermine, the named storm among the eighth season of hurricanes within the Atlantic, is strengthened while in the Gulf of Mexico.
A tiny low-pressure area around the southwestern Gulf of Mexico has developed enough organized convection to become considered a tropical storm Monday. With little water and clip with the Gulf of great warmth, conditions appear very favorable for intensification over time as this storm makes landfall.
From 1 PM CDT Monday, here’s up to the minute information on Tropical Storm Hermine:
Location: 24.1N 96.5W
About 140 miles SSE of Brownsville, TX
Maximum sustained winds: 60 mph or 95 km / h
Motion: 335/14 or N to 14 mph
The minimum central pressure: 995 MB or 29.38 ”
Track of the storm has moved north this morning and is predicted to maneuver only in Brownsville over the following 12-24 hours. Although this storm isn’t expected to maneuver on to the Golden Crescent, will dump about 2-5 inches of rain in our area, with some areas recording as much as 10 inches. The rain from this storm could move as early as Monday morning. Tropical storm warnings are already in effect for Calhoun, Arkansas, and Refugio until tropical storm conditions disappear. A flood warning is in effect for the remainder of the viewing area as well.
