There are over 100,000 apps in Apple’s App store. Today I’ll show you 10 apps that I think are some of the best around and why I chose them. (Note with some of these apps you might need a working internet connection)
1. The first app I chose is “Textfree Unlimited”. This app provides users with a free phone number along with free texts (US) support. The app used to be a paid app in the app store but now it’s free. Its ad supported and gives you alerts when you get text. And also allows you to use a custom alert for any contact. Another handy feature is signatures; with signatures you can send some words in the end of every text if you always finish off your text the same way. The biggest concern of the app is you can’t send picture messages.
2. The second app I chose is “Soundhound”. Soundhound is an app that helps users find out about songs by allowing the user to record a clip with content from a song. “Soundhound” searches its database for the right song. After the search completes, “Soundhound” pulls up its result(s). It sometimes gives you a preview of the clip, a YouTube video, lyrics, and you can share all the information by emailing if to your friends. I really like this app because I can hum the tune to my song or record it directly from the radio and I know the title. There are alternatives like “Shazzam” that I keep around even tough “Soundhound” has WAY better performance than because the free version of “Soundhound” only gives you 5 searches (there is a paid version) so I would also keep “Shazzam” on the side.
3. The next app would be ICall. With I call you can call us phones free. After placing a call the first thing you would hear is an advertisement.
4. “Justin.tv” is a great app that streams live events uploaded by people directly to your IPhone/IPod. Sometimes the event/thing you’re looking for might not show up but it’s a great place to go for popular thing. On its home page it shows the top streams. It can sometimes be a good place for watching popular sporting events. Sometimes you may experience lag on a slow internet connection.
5. “Dictionary.com” is a great dictionary. One of the only services where your device has to be connected to the Internet is only for the pronunciations. They say it almost has a great 100,000 words in the dictionary and almost 90,000 in the thesaurus! It’s a great handy app on the go. It even tries to corrects your words is they are misspelled.
6. The free version of “Triptracker” can come in handy if you’re going to pick someone up or you’re going to board on an airplane in a while. With this app you can check the status of your flight by searching the flights and selecting the one you would like to find information about or just simply type in a valid tracking number. If the flight is found or you found it “Triptracker” will show you a map of where the plane is, the status of the flight, some information at the destination, and push alerts (if available on your os/settings).
7. “Bump” is a fun app when other person you know near you has the same app too. With this app you can send pictures and social network information with another device. But you can’t send something to someone who does not have the app.
8. “Download light” is an app that lets you download files of its browser. When you try to download a file on your browser “Download light” let’s you choose what you want to do with your file. Sometimes you’re trying to play a media file the app gives you an option to play the file in the media player.
9. “Glow hockey” is a table hockey game with a little more affects. I found that this is one the most realistic hockey games. One of the most noticeable affects is that when the puck hits of the wall the wall glows (this feature can be disabled). There are also three levels (easy, medium, and hard).
10. The final app is “Convert Units”. The name almost gives it away. This app allows you to convert between available units. It’s a very simple app and it’s all done on one screen. It’d supported by an ad that takes away some space but it’s still a good app.
