History of the iPhone

It is a multimedia enabled smart phone and can access the Internet, voicemail, plays music and videos, has a camera, calendar, S.M.S. and M.M.S. facilities. It doesn’t have a keyboard. It is a touch screen phone and works by dragging, tapping and typing on a virtual keyboard. Its other features include games, Bluetooth, GPRS, Infrared, GPS navigation, social networking, advertising and wi-fi connectivity.
On September 7, 2005, the leading mobile manufacturing companies Apple and Motorola released the first mobile phone to use iTunes. In September 2006, Apple discontinued support with Motorola and released a mobile phone that could display pictures and videos. The first iPhone was introduced on January 9, 2007. The first advertisement for iPhone took place on February 25, 2007 which featured clips from films and television shows. On June 3, 2007, Apple announced June 29, 2007 the release date of iPhone. More than 700000 iPhones were sold and 146000 iPhones were activated in the initial weekend. On June 11, 2007, Apple decided to support the third party applications by using the Safari engine on iPhones. Third parties would create the web applications for the users to access them through the internet.
On June 29, 2007, Apple released a version 7.3 of iTunes which contains support for iPhone syncing and service activation. On July 1, 2007, Apple purchased the iphone.com domain name. On August 14, 2007, a method to bypass the iPhone’s SIM lock was verified. On August 24, 2007, George Hotz from Glen Rock, New Jersey confirmed that he unlocked the phone and used it on other network than AT&T. On September 5, 2007, the 4 GB model of iPhone was discontinued and the 8 GB model price was reduced. On September 24, 2007 Apple issued a warning that the updates could make the unlocked iPhones unusable. On October 16, 2007, the iPhone development team released a SIM that unlocks iPhones.
On February 8, 2008, Geohot released the first full software unlock. The modified version of iPhone named 3G was released on July 11, 2008. The very first iPhone 3G model was sold in Auckland New Zealand. It was equipped with 3G cellular network capabilities and a GPS location. On June 17, 2009, the iPhone 3GS was launched. It brought a compass which is used to find directions, higher resolution camera and video with a faster processor. The iPhone 4 was released on June 24, 2010. It has higher resolution display with two cameras for face time video calling.
An iPhone is a very useful device for us to access online services, software and other tools with sufficient memory and storage capacity. It provides us with incredible functions and applications that can be utilized for our convenience and comfort. Over 33.75 million iPhones were sold till the year 2009. The frequent sale of iPhones is still on in the year 2010.
