Those looking for a few additional Apple-based rumors to keep them going over the weekend were certainly well catered for last week, with well-weighted online sources informing us to expect a new iPad 3 with iron-clad certainty in March, while the new iPhone 5 will boast both LTE support and a metal backing.
With regard to the iPad 3, all signs are pointing to a slightly thicker unit (slightly being around 0.7mm) which will be required to house the twin light bar system for the massively increased display resolution. The fact that the rumors regarding the display have been doing the rounds for quite some time now once again makes the likelihood of a March release entirely plausible and indeed tantalizing to say the least.
That is of course discounting the idea of a stopgap iPad 2S to keep us waiting until the fall season of 2012, but the less said about that right now the better.
iPhone 5-wise, the same sources has dismissed every single suggestion that the next iteration of the device will feature a teardrop design, though they have also confirmed to their readers that the iPhone 5 will in fact be 8mm longer, so as to house the superb 4 inch screen. A metal case has also been suggested as almost a guarantee, as has the inclusion of a 4G LTE antenna – but of course we really could have figured that one out anyway.
With regard to the release date, expect Summer 2012 when Apple may return back to their usual annual product release timetable, which would be quite the relief for those waiting every day at present for another bone to be thrown and usually coming up empty handed.
