Has Ex Hannah Montana Star Gone Too Far?
Entertainment, General, Headlines Tuesday, July 26th, 2011
The days when teenage girls has clean-cut and wholesome pop stars such as the Spice Girls to look up to seem to have been confined to history, which has been proven beyond reasonable doubt to many who witnesses the recent Miley Cyrus Gypsy Heart tour. While some have come forward to salute the ex Hannah Montana star’s irrefutable talent, others have expressed sadness at what has become the standard of teenage/young girls’ role models.
Crotch-grabbing and leather hot pants will always have their place in entertainment, but is that place really in front of thousands of adoring pre-teens? Cyrus is only to be expected to make efforts to shake her Disney princess image of the past, but it would appear she may be trying a little too hard.
The shows were incredibly energetic and highly sexualized, which made it a little uncomfortable when seeing the girls as young as five years old in the front row singing along to every world and admiring Miley in her thigh-high boots and mock-bondage gear. Indeed, the only thing more disturbing for many that the outfit choices of Miley herself were those of her young audience members – primary school ages girls in mini-skirts, heels and layers of make-up in the freezing night air.
Of course, this could be laid at the door of the parents for allowing them to dress like this but it cannot be ignored that role models encouraging such behavior may well be wise to direct their message to a slightly older crowd for both their own sake and that of their fans.
